2003.05.28 Education Continues …
Following their late 2002 return from the United States, the Irkutsk delegation that participated in Phase II of the Drug Enforcement and Prevention Program for Siberian Youth (DEPSY) committed to continuing the education that they started in Burlington, Vermont (November 30 – December 15, 2002). The group members have begun to explore the opportunities that new Internet technologies provide. New resources will help them not only maintain relationships with their colleagues and host families in Burlington, but also “widen” informational borders. [more]
2003.05.26 Students from Irkutsk School # 71 Write Poems Devoted to Healthy Lifestyle
As we wrote earlier Irkutsk School # 71 observed Global Youth Service Day by conducting “Ten Days of Healthy Lifestyle.” Children drew pictures and wrote songs and poems about their negative attitude towards drugs, smoking and alcohol as well as toward environmental pollution. Many poems were devoted to health, sports, bad and good habits, smiles, fun, and kindness. You can read the poems that were chosen the best. Short funny poems were authored by grade 5-B and more serious and long poems were authored by grade 6-B. [more]
2003.05.23 «Ten Days of Healthy Lifestyle» at Irkutsk School # 71
Irkutsk School # 71 observed Global Youth Service Day by conducting “Ten Days of Healthy Lifestyle.” From April 24–May 12, 2003 the school enjoyed the benefits of this well-organized event with great gusto. Children’s athletic scores improved, and the entire population of the school created pictures and poems, stories and anecdotes devoted to the topic “Be Healthy!” [more]

2003.05.21 Irkutsk School # 75 Observes Global Youth Service Day By Organizing Health Day
On April 24, 2003 Irkutsk school # 75 organized an athletic event called “Health Day,” which was held to observe Global Youth Service Day.
Sports competitions were organized in order to help children spend their free time actively, and to attract children to physical training and sports.

On April 20, 2003 in Irkutsk students of colleges of music, art, theater, and culture, who live in the dormitory or so called Social Center, conducted a colorful event called “Palm Sunday,” which brought more than one hundred participants and eight leaders together in this merry holiday. [more]
2003.05.15 Irkutsk Specialists Participate in Global Youth Service Day and Conduct Event Entitled “Family”
From April 15-17, 2003, the City of Irkutsk was host to the community event entitled “Family,” whose aim was to identify and assist at-risk families as well as to prevent child neglect and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
During these three days, specialists conducted medical and psychological examinations of children and teenagers. They also talked with parents of at-risk children. In addition, these families received food and clothes as welfare. More than one hundred children and teenagers participated in contests, games and sport competitions that were held by the organizers of “Family.” Children were awarded prizes.
2003.05.13 American and Russian Specialists Conduct Six Conferences in Two Weeks
From April 18-30, 2003 the fourth and final phase of the Drug Enforcement and Prevention Program for Siberian Youth (DEPSY) took place in Eastern Siberia. Project Harmony facilitated conferences, which were devoted to the prevention of socially negative behavior, in six DEPSY partner-cities. American and Irkutsk specialists shared their experience of prevention work during this most intense phase of the program. [more]
2003.04.22 Seven Cities in Fifteen Days
IRKUTSK, Russia – From April 16-30, the fourth phase of the Drug Enforcement and Prevention Program for Siberian Youth (DEPSY) is underway in seven Eastern Siberian cities. The event, entitled “Evaluation of In-School Curriculum Implementation” brings a team of US specialists together with a team from Irkutsk, who will travel throughout the Irkutsk Oblast, Krasnoyarsk, and Ulan-Ude to witness first-hand how the in-school drug-prevention curriculum has been implemented in schools. Specialists will observe DOM (Children. Education. Police.) lessons, discuss ways to continue expanding the network of participating schools, and participate in roundtables with DEPSY alumni and other stakeholders involved with youth development issues.
